Re_lume Chair_Studio Pics

I just finished up a set of the Re_Lume chairs this past week.  The chairs are composed of recycled cast aluminum chair legs, originally used on some vintage diner chairs I picked up at a local flea market.  The seats are hand made out of African Mahogany , that is recycled scrap from a local window manufacturer.  The wood components of the chair were created with a bandsaw and an angle grinder, each chair was formed individually.  There are a limited number of the chairs available due to the scarcity of the legs.  The first set of six is already sold, I have eight chairs remaining that are for sale in minimum orders of 4.  Pricing is; $1200 for a set of four, $1680 for a set of six, $2200 for a set of eight.

Progress

I’m slowly tackling projects off the list.  Working on the third phase for the Inferno Landscape Intervention, removed a truckload of weeds and put down 18 tons of decorative gravel. I’m also making good progress on the RE_Lume chairs.  I have a limited number on those so I went ahead and am making them all at once.  The Drummond Home Renovation project will be on tour next weekend, for details go hereInferno LandscapeRE_Lumechair.

Finally made it by to take some pics of the re_lume chair at Urbana. Mind you these are not fancy studio pics and the chairs don’t even have all of the coats of finish on them. But this should give you and idea of the final form. As soon as I get a set of six done I’ll be getting some studio photos taken of them.

re_lume chair

A hectic week preparing for the gallery opening at Urbana last week. I struggled with the chair design for most of the week, but in typical fashion pulled things together with just enough time to get it all done.
I worked through the design at full scale with some scrap Maple I had on hand. I tried to document the entire process, but as I got more crunched for time I forgot to photo the stages.

I skipped about a days worth of frustration with the pics. Taking the chair apart cutting carving glueing. Then I realized that I had to start the final chairs or I wouldn’t have time to finish. So here is a pic of the Mahogany glued up for the seat and back of one chair.
