Manifesto
Studiobuild started with the idea that integrating the process of designing and building is the best method of project delivery. StudioBuild’s hands on process is a method that evolves with each new project type. With an extensive construction background and on going relationships within the field, I feel that in order to properly serve our clients it is best to take the traditional Architect as Master Builder role.
History
The roots of studiobuild go back to hot summers of the 90’s, working on the framing crew for my fathers construction company. From an early age I was fortunate to be immersed in all aspects of the residential construction business, it has given me experience and knowledge that influence studiobuilds work. I hold a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from Kansas State University and fulfilled my licensure requirements at the local firm of RDM Architecture. In hindsight the first studiobuild project was a purchase I made halfway through my first year at RDM, a Mid Century Modern home that was built in 1949 by local modern home builder Don Drummond. The house was in very poor shape and a complete remodel was required. Working nights and weekends with friends and family we completed the project that was the catalyst for my practice. I documented about the entire process on my personal blog www.drummondhome.blogspot.com. This project reaffirmed my desire to combine my two passions into a design/ build company.
Studiobuild started in 2008 as a blog to document my design/build projects after I finished the house remodel. Over the course of a few busy months my portfolio grew with works for friends and family while I was working full time at the local Architecture firm of RDM Architecture. The workload at studiobuild continued gaining momentum through the summer and in mid July I started focusing on studiobuild full time.
Nate Adolf joined studiobuild full time in January 2010. He is currently working through his mandatory six month tour through the ringer at studiobuild without an ounce of pay. Nate brings an extensive background in design and construction management from his time working in Montana.
Currently we are taking the exams required to be a licensed Architect. Jerad is a licensed residential contractor with Johnson County, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri.
Where We are Going
The question I get the most often is what do you do? The most simple answer is any project type we find interesting and feel we can offer an efficient and smart solution to.
Studiobuild tackles a wide range of projects, it’s part of what keeps my job interesting. In the past year we have designed and built; numerous furniture projects, several landscape installations, home remodels, and several general construction projects. I am also currently working part time as design consultant with RDM Architecture.
Where are we going? Who knows, that is really up to the clients.
